Today we’re standing together as you pledge yourselves to a new country. We’re united as citizens of a great nation; America. What is an American? An American is being proud and free, but more importantly, being an American is being you. Although we’re a melting pot, we’re also individuals, and that’s what’s so great about this country. America is the undefinable silent force that draws all people under its flag together. It is the weight that pulls on the tears that form as "The Star Spangled Banner" is sung. It is the smiles, the waves, the held doors, and the "pleases" and "thank-you's" that are shared between Americans, regardless of outside factors. The true definition of America is not a definition at all. America is an ever-present spirit that draws its people together, and can only be defined by…

The American flag is the very definition of our country, our 50 united states, red for our valor, white is our purity, and the blue for our vigilance. It should be protected for what it stands for. It may be controversial due to the 1st Amendment and it’s freedom of speech, but I believe it gone through too much to be treated in such a way,…

The American flag is one of the last symbols of hope. It stands for life, support and freedom. One example of how the flag is a symbol of life is when people die the veterans, the soldiers or anyone who worked for this country bring all the flags to half-mast to honor the people that die during the incident that occurred. When a flag is old and tattered persons cut the stars out and send them to friends and family so the flag is remembered but isn't “suffering”. The U.S. flag also stands for support.…

I am going to start out talking about our 2nd amendment, the right to bear arms. In today’s society you might as well bite your tongue, we have our people who believe they should be ripped away and others who say that everyone should own a gun. But what would Andrew do? Personally I believe Andrew would have wanted to keep guns, 1 reason being that he killed Charles Dickinson in a duel. These 2 relentlessly hated each other but this event had sparked after a horse derby, Dickinson stated that Jackson had lied about changing his bet on a certain horse and proceeded to call him a coward and as well told Jackson’s wife that she was a bigamist.…

What does it mean to be an American? That is the question that many people ask, but do not know the real answer. Everyone will have their own opinion on what it means to be a true American. Some may say pride, some may say fearlessness, some may say determination, but to me the most important word that I could use to describe what it means to be an American is a family. In the United States of America, people, especially in the world of politics, are often asked to define who is exactly is an “American”. On the surface, the answer seems rather obvious; an American is a person who is a native or citizen of the United States of America (Oxford Dictionary). However, 239 years ago, the United States of America became it’s own independent country. Since the formation of the original 13 colonies, men, women, and their families have fled to the USA to escape the injustices happening in their home countries in hopes of a better life. The USA was a country founded by immigrants, built by immigrants, for immigrants.…

An informative speech is a speech where you are educating an audience on a topic that they may not know much about, while a persuasive speech uses a bias opinion to persuade the audience to change their opinion about a topic. A persuasive speech may also be informative because of the information it contains, but an informative speech will never be persuasive. The reason behind this is in order to persuade the audience to take your side in a matter they may also need to be informed more about the topic before making their decision, making this a persuasive speech. An informative speech will never contain persuasive information (Brewer, G., 2001).…
