There are many different opinions on the age of responsibility and adulthood. In Alan Greenblatts article, “What is the Age of Responsibility?”, he discusses how people often think 18 is too young to be considered an adult but yet there are many contradictions against the claim. With so many factos influencing what people think maturaity means, people should be considered adults at 18 because that is when teens start experiencing adult things and start making real life decisons. The age of maturity should be measured not by age but by the persons life experiences. Robert Epstein, a psychologist, completed a study with, “... Although some may see maturity as being serious rather than silly or an individual having the ability to act responsibly, the key to maturity is putting others before oneself and knowing the difference between what is right and wrong.…

In the article written by Julie Beck entitled “When Are You Really an Adult?” she uses a series of true life accounts to attempt to define when a person becomes an adult and what defines adulthood. She begins with the real life example of Henry David Thoreau and catches the attention of the reader by leading them down the path that she is talking about a current day young man. Beck makes it clear that what defines being an adult is not clear, there is no black and white answer. There are many factors leading to whether a person feels they have become an adult.…
