The definition of addiction according to Google is as follows: “noun; that fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance, thing, or activity.” When it comes to addiction people ask who can become addicted? What can one be addicted to? When does it happen? Why do people become addicted? How does addiction work? There are a lot of things that someone can become addicted to, but it all starts off with a person doing something that they feel helps them with an emptiness. Someone can become addicted to a drug without even taking any drugs. Those who become addicts involuntary are drug babies. When a fetus is exposed to a drug addiction, it starts with its mother. When a mother is addicted to a drug and is pregnant their child may come out addicted to that same substance. Not only does it affect just the woman taking the drug, but its future child. When that child is born it has the possibilities to be addicted to a substance which can harm the unborn child. When that mother is taking a …show more content…
After, someone has taken a drug and continues to take it their body becomes use to taking it which makes the need for it not helpfully to their addiction. Some people become so immune to a drug that it stops working to feed their addiction that they try something stronger so they can continue to feel complete. The medical term for addiction states that it is a chronic brain disorder, not merely a behavioral problem or simply the result of taking the wrong choices according to the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). A neurological disorder is any disorder of the body nervous system. Which makes me look at the definition of a disorder which says on Google that it is a state of confusion.
