Being A Victim

Improved Essays
Earlier in the semester I had to write an essay about how I will be a Creator and not a Victim. In my summery that I wrote about me being a Creator, that I would make a schedule of how I would keep up with my school work and not let my social life interfere. My schedule was me spending an hour and thirty minutes studying for English, two hours of completing my class work assignments and homework from English. Then spend another hour and a half completing work from my First Aid class, by the time I finish my work from that class I’ll go to the gym to relive some stress for about two hours. After I come home from the gym I will do my math work until it’s time for me to go to sleep. With this schedule I should be having a successful semester in

I never considered myself to be an excellent writer but still thought I wrote well enough to get my point across without confusing the reader too much. However, any confidence that I had in my writing skills was lost for a short time when I had to write my first timed essay in school. Luckily, the timed essay assignment also helped me see that I needed to work on my writing and, as a result, actually turned out to be a more positive experience rather than a negative one. It was just another regular school day that was near its end, and I had one more class to go to before everyone was released to go home.…

In today's society people often categorize characters into stereotypes, media often portrays bullied victims as weak and vulnerable people who not only are introverts but are also not self-assured. In other words, media defines roles as to who people are and how they should be. In the movie "Wreck-It-Ralph", these stereotypes have been disapproved. These conventions are challenged throughout the movie, specifically once Vanellope regains her power at Candy Rush. Vanellope…

Victimization theories applies to the methods of why a crime occurs to specific individuals or victims. Three particular victimization theories are mentioned in this paper, the victim precipitation theory, the spatial relation theory, and the routine activity theory, in which all apply to the case of Carla. Carla (found strangulated to death and sexually assaulted) was a young adult female who was noted to be involved with illegal substances and “clients” of some sort. She also engaged in repetitive activities and lifestyle choices. A combination of harmful acts of behaviors she engaged in, frequenting crime-like areas, along with being young and female, ultimately resulted in her death.…

Slavery has existed for a majority of human history. It has existed in society because it was either economically viable or because a group of people where dehumanized. When slavery happens or any other human wrong, we see the person who has been wronged as a victim. It is up to them to change that by using agency, taking action in their situation. Agency and victimhood coexist in which one can not exist without the other.…

Victim blaming presumes that the offender and the victim are someway partners in crime, and that a degree of mutuality, symbiosis, or reciprocity may exist between them. First, the assumption is made that there is something wrong with these individuals. They are said to differ significantly from the unaffected majority in their attitudes, their behaviors, or both. Second, these presumed differences are thought to be the source of their plight. If they were like everyone else, the reasoning goes, they would not have been targeted for attack.…

The cost of victimizations cannot be measured solely in monetary terms. The losses people suffer can be identified as either intangible or tangible. Tangible costs are hard to translate into dollars and cents but refer to the pain, suffering, and reductions in the quality of life individuals endure when they are shaken or even traumatized by negative events. Tangible economic losses are relatively easy to measure monetarily whenever offenders take cash or valuables, steal vandalize, or destroy property, and inflict injuries that require medical attention and recuperation that interferes with work.…

If a man or boy had beaten up a teenage girl the only question anyone would ask is how quickly can we lock the prison door and throwaway the key? But if she’s raped, then apparently we have to ask several questions such as: “How was she dresses?” “Was she drunk?” “Was she alone with them?”. In a normal world, a victim of sexual assault would always be met with empathy but instead victims are often met with scepticism.…

Ryan, I believe that you are spot on with your Post. I believe you and I see eye to eye when it comes to the fact that one should be trying to blame a victim for a crime that happened against them. I think that victims sometimes do not realize that their actions may contribute them becoming a victim, just as you stated, leaving valuables in plain sight with their vehicle unlocked. I favor victim defending, which should be used to educate those of not becoming a victim again.…

Repeat Victimization is described as the repeated occurrence of crime involving either the same victim or the same location. Repeat Victimization can be put into two groups. The first being Event Dependency (Gill & Pease 1998), this typically refers to circumstances in which the offender commits another offense based on the past experiences with that victim or location. The other group is Risk Heterogeneity (Gill & Pease 1998), which insinuates that, prior victimization or some other factor identifies the victim or location as an appropriate target for further victimization. I think event dependency best explains repeat victimization.…

Although Secondary Victimisation affects a victim in a severely psychological level, sometimes understanding why the criminal justice system might put regulations on a victims’ statement or powers might help. The Government is the person/group technically suing the offender, not the victim, is by technically the victim would have no say on any deals made by the prosecution. The rights of Offender; legal Counsel, to be included and informed of all actions; right to a fair trial; ‘Innocence until proven guilty,’ previous criminal history is excluded, rights of appeal and other rights afforded to them by the government in several countries, however there are countries that have tightened regulations on rights of the offender. Blaming The Victim

Blaming the Victim means that the problem is triggered by the people who are affected by it when they usually are not the true perpetrators. Often, there is a main issue that is causing a specific event or events to continually occur and we should first work at an attempt to solve it. Unfortunately, this is not generally what happens. Generally, people will believe that the victim must have done something wrong or behaved inappropriately, therefore bringing the issue upon themselves. As a result, the “solution” chosen to try to the problem will often be punishing the ones affected, isolating them, and/or attempting to force them to change their actions.…
