“Being a twin, and being my sister’s twin, is such a defining part of my life that I wouldn’t know how to be who I am,” says Taiye Selasi. Which, I couldn’t agree more with. My sister and I are inseparable, we did everything together; from wearing the same clothes to playing every sport together, to having every class together our senior year of high school, and we even had the same friends. Never in my life did I think that I would be walking across that stage without my twin sister. This was something special that we had accomplished together. Nor did I expect my sister to be so sick to the point that she was not able to walk for something that we had worked for with each other. No matter what the situation is, do not let anything stop you from achieving your goals.
Everything changed on May 22nd of 2016; I woke up to the sound of my sister vomiting. My parents and sister just assumed that it was the stomach flu and insisted on to wait it out and sleep it off and that it would only get better. The next day had arrived and she was only getting worse. She decided to wait another day thinking that her vomiting and stomach pains would disappear. Another day went by and still no relief. She decided she would go to the doctors, the doctors immediately told her to go to the hospital and that day, May 25th, she was admitted into the hospital. Our graduation was in 3 days! I did not know what to do, we had just picked out our graduation outfits and now the doctors were already…
