Trying to identify my own interests, while never being thought of or referred to as an individual, is daunting. Before I attended school, my mom transported me in a triplet stroller. Contrary to a traditional one, it has three seats that create a row. Thus, only the one in front is exposed to the public. Since we do everything by birth order, this meant Jon was in the front, then Sam and then me. I would occasionally talk to the people who were on my team and went to my school, but I never considered reaching out to those I was unfamiliar with. Also in middle school, I went to a sleep away camp in the Adirondacks called Northern Frontier for three consecutive summers. While everyone was meeting and interacting with strangers from a variety of states, I was content with talking to my identical brother, Sam. Since Jon was in the front of the stroller, he has always been more comfortable with socializing. I just want to bring perspective to why I decided to form a team, and why it has been so successful for me and my teammates. In this sport, unless you have lived it yourself, no one else can ever truly appreciate the lows and highs, the sacrifices, the mood swings, the doubts , the fears, the anxiety, the pleasure, the intensity, and the list go on, of what we as competitors go through in preparation for the “big day”! We are in an elite group of people that most do not, and cannot, understand. So, to have a team of girls that truly “get it”, is something that I have grown to love and cherish. It is a sisterhood that supports each other and lift each other up.…

I am a middle child. I was born two years after my sister Meredith, and Caleigh came six years after me. Within my family and friends, I am known as the quiet, quintessential middle child. For the first 16 years of my life, I was always an afterthought to the craziness of the first-born and the baby of the family, and I loved it‒ it made me independent and self-reliant. I was very comfortable being the easy-going child, happily accepting anything that came my way.…

When it came to be time for lunch, I remember a voice in my head scolding me for not attempting to make conversation; It was most likely my mother’s voice reminding me to try to make new friends. I began introducing myself and asking them about themselves, and I was ecstatic to find that they were outgoing and, throughout the rest of the day, they tried several times to include me and help me get situated with my new environment. Apart from certain times where a few would openly mock my…

The three core assumptions include that we respond to things in our environment based on their meanings, meanings are not inherent in things; they emerge from social interaction, and shared cultural meanings are continually changing and emerging. This theory argues that humans communicate through symbols of shared meanings.…
