In, “Including Students with Special Needs” by Friend and Bursuck at an elementary level I will help children who are struggling with pronouncing sounds. If I worked at the intermediate elementary level, I would focus on vocabulary and help students that have a cognitive disability pronounce words or complete sentences. At the middle school or high school level I would held students that have a low-incidence disability. This would include helping them understand common signs and help them to take on undertakings like ordering food or asking for help.
A (IEP) is an individualized education plan. An IEP has at least one special education service provider which could be me, if the child is struggling with communication. This is made to help guide the education of your child. The IEP team will include the parents, and may include some of the team members that participated with evaluation and classification. The aspects of an IEP that would effect me would be problem areas in cognitive and speech-language impairment. Every part of the IEP will affect me.
