People always say that their jobs never include meeting new individuals. Well now they can being a recreational therapist means just that. By becoming a recreational therapist people can help men and women of all ages through hard or rough times by recreational activities. Some of which include arts, crafts, sports and even music. Being a recreational therapist means more than just getting to say that a person has a entertaining job. Recreational therapists use a variety of methods to help their patients recover from their mental and/or physical problems. By using the patients strengths a recreational therapist plans activities using those certain strengths. They use the patients favorite activities as a way to help heal them. To become a recreational therapist one must have a variety of skills such as compassion, sympathy and many more. …show more content…
Depending on who the patient is and what they enjoy doing is going to change the work environment. Here's a example: say that the therapist has two different patients, one a 15 year old girl who is fighting depression, and the other a 36 year old male that is recovering from an injury from the army. The older male likes to play sports while the 15 year old teenage girl loves to draw, being a recreational therapist it is their job to decide on what activities they would benefit the most from. So they do not put the male in art and the girl in lacrosse, no the recreational therapist will help the girl through her drawings and art. They will then put the 36 year old male in a sport or possibly help him 'train/practice' lacrosse or some other sport. Beings how a recreational therapist works with so many people it is only reasonable that they must work full time. Recreational therapists work in a variety of settings. Most therapists work full time.
