Being a parent and having your child get pregnant at a young age is hard to accept. In today’s society it is becoming less uncommon for a young lady, fewer than twenty, to become pregnant. "In 2013, a total of 273,105 babies were born to women aged 15–19 years, for a live birth rate of 26.5 per 1,000 women in this age group (Teen pregnancy CDC)".
If I had a fourteen year old daughter tell me she was pregnant it would be a shock to me. At first I would probably have no words. I 'm positive I would have a lot of emotions all at once about the situation. For parents who have had this type of experience, I wonder what their reactions were. Honestly I have no idea how I would react but I would try to stay calm and figure the situation out. I would inform her on her options and I would support her in what she chooses except abortion I would be against that one hundred percent. I would not kick her out or be irrational about the situation because I understand thing happen and we don’t think before we act. I think a lot of parents overreact and it causes the teen to shut down and not respond to that parent. I hear a lot of parents tell their teens ‘if you come home pregnant you better find somewhere else to live.’ In my opinion that is a little out of hand. Like I mentioned before I would help my daughter explore her options and let her make the decision since she got herself into the situation. Here is a statistic on what the outcomes of teen pregnancy are. “In 2010, the majority of pregnancies to adolescent females ages 15-19 in the United States—an estimated 60 percent—ended in a live birth; 15 percent ended in a miscarriage; and 30 percent ended in an abortion. The rate of abortions among adolescents is the lowest since abortion was legalized in 1973 and 66 percent lower than its peak in 1988” (hhs.gov). I thing the rate of abortions is to high but I understand that teens resort to abortion when they feel they have no other option. If my daughter decided to keep the baby I would inform her on what she needed to do to keep the baby and herself health. I would help her get things situated to be ready for the baby. I would also inform her of the health risks that her and the baby would have since she is a pregnant teen. All in all, teen pregnancy rates and abortion rates have dropped but that does not mean we shouldn’t inform our teens about the risks of being sexually active. I think all parents should have the ‘sex talk’ with their teens, boys and girls, more than once. I feel that if a parent finds out
