After moving to the United States my first stint at volunteering was at Alta Bates (Shutter Health) hospital. I started of working as a cashier & salesman at the hospital gift shop, this opportunity provided me lot of people interaction thereby improving my customer service. My manager trusted me so much that there were days when she allowed me to manage the shop for few hours in her absence, this provided me valuable leadership lessons. (More details to be added). Later I moved to being a volunteer at the nutrition department where I worked alongside Registered dietitian and dietetic assistants.…
What new insights and understandings did you gain by participating in the course? Explain. As I wrote before, the comprehension…
Theory is derived from evidence to help understand how various influences relate to behavior and behavior changes. Different professionals use theory to explain and or predict behaviors. Nutritionists use theory to understand how influences on food and behavior directly related. Using theory, nutritionists are able to identify mediators that need to be addressed, types of information that must be compiled, provide guidance on designing intervention components and then evaluate. The relationships among main mediators are used to explain behavior and behavior change is the main focus of theory.…
The first time, I enrolled in this class, I felt excited knowing this class would help on my grammar, so I can become a better writer. My first thought that cross my mind was this was going to be easy and it was. My last experienced with writing and English was okay because I mainly get a B or a C, but rarely I would get an A. I always been having trouble with grammars. My high school English teachers taught us about grammars and how to become a better writer. It was similar to what you had taught us in class because we always learned about grammar out of a book and we got tested after we been practice.…
Going into this course I was thinking: “Okay, Lisa, I have had a lot of experiences. What more can I possibly learn? I highly doubt that I will come away from this class learning something new.” But sure enough, I was wrong and you were right. For example, I always thought it was unhealthy to skip periods if a female is on birth control, but Planned Parenthood told me otherwise.…
Discuss an experience that sparked your interest in this field. I was a young freshman, wandering the halls of Cambridge High School attempting to find my classes without being late. During my freshman year, I was enrolled in a fascinating science class; biology. I became amazed at everything that I learned about and how every body system was so intricate in its functioning. I also loved how different levels of organization affect upper levels of the body system.…
Even just after a couple of weeks I have gained a lot of insight. This course will be helpful for me because I have been wanting to make healthier choices in my everyday life, and this course nudges me to do…
I feel like I have learned a lot more than I do in some other classes. This course was not just a memorize the terms, regurgitate said terms on an exam and forget the material. There were many real examples that have sparked a lot of interest for me. Fair Trade items are now something that I am very familiar with and I attempt to find ways to purchase things I need that are fair traded. The climate change and global warming topic sparked my interest when I learned that all the glaciers will be gone by 2015.…
IV nutrition is a method that involves injecting a nutrient-rich formula into the bloodstream. The formula used in the procedure is a potent mixture of vitamins and minerals that help resolve certain issues, such as fatigue and migraines. The solution does not pass through the GI tract or undergo the first-pass metabolism in the liver, allowing the patient to get the full benefit of the nutrients. IV nutrition was developed during the 1960s by Dr. Stanley J. Dudrick. He first used this technique on Beagle puppies, but soon, it proved to be quite useful in helping newborns with catastrophic gastrointestinal malignancies.…
How many times do you satisfy your hunger by grabbing a bag of chips rather than a banana or quench your thirst by drinking pop instead of water? Eating healthy and getting enough exercise on a daily basis can be difficult. By keeping a food diary and physical activity diary for five days I am able to see what my trends and bad habits are as well at what I did well nutritionally. Some of these trends and habits can lead to health risks later in my life, so to reduce these risks there are plans and recommendations for eating a balanced meal and staying healthy physically. I consider myself a healthy eater and I like to check the food labels on items for amounts of carbohydrates, fats, protein, sodium, and even the first few ingredients.…
Beginning this class, I was not sure what to expect because I did not really know what community health was. I signed up for the class to fulfill the requirement for my minor. Throughout this class, I have learned so much about the aspects of the community health, agencies, drug abuse, health rates, and disease types and control. These were all topics that were greatly interesting to me and I feel like the class improved my understanding of the way in which many communities operate. It also taught me the correct meaning of many terms that I thought I knew what they meant, but I had heard them used incorrectly so often that I associated the wrong meaning with the word.…
Over the course of this class, I have learned many new things about diet, health, and proper nutrition for a long life. Without learning these very important things, I may have just continued on my old diet, which was not healthy in the least. I have now seen a real proper diet, complete with all different food groups and everything in between. I am grateful for this class, because otherwise, I would probably still have that unhealthy diet. Nutrition taught me a lot, and I am ready now to follow all that it taught me, and I think I have the knowledge now to teach the people around me about it too.…
One reason is after reading the course description, I felt that it was interesting topic that I could probably learn a thing or two about being a good father. I’m not saying that I didn’t have a great father but he wasn’t the best either. For the most part, my father did a great job raising me to appreciate education because he wasn’t given the same opportunity to further his education. Both my parents high education was 6th grade. So I am the first in my family to graduate middle school, and high school.…
I vaguely remember sitting at my desk wondering what led me to the Health Sciences and Technology class. I know my two older sisters are part of the medical field; one is a Dental Assistant and the other a Medical Assistant. However, my sisters’ interest in the medical field didn’t seem to affect me. Health Sciences just sounded like a good class. Besides, all the other freshman electives in high school didn’t catch my attention.…
But this class changed that. I learned so much and my eyes were open to so many new things. I loved that I was able to take what I had learned in class and be able to apply it in lab and have hands on experiences with the subject we were learning about. This class will benefit me in the near future because this class taught me that I am a hands on learner. I am able to understand topics more thoroughly and learn better if I am able to do it and see it myself.…
