My associate and I can see why some teachers would not like this young man because he is very honest and likes to have fun. I could tell that school was a place where he had many friends and it was more of a social thing for him. As we got to know Dave, he as been nothing but pleasant and fun to work with. This is what is so good about being a music teacher. Maybe we have the advantage because we will spend several years together.
My idea as a future administrator is to require “core teachers” to start with a freshman class and teach them all the way until they graduate. I think this would motivate more teachers to understand each student though the years. This would also make teachers accountable and trackable when it came to student progress. Some would say that this is already being done through vertical alignment. However, why does it all seem to fail at times? I think the failure comes from teachers blaming others for the lack of knowledge that students have when they arrive to their classes. Shouldn’t we all have the attitude that we can teach any student regardless of how much knowledge they have? Isn’t it our job to find out what they can do and encourage them to learn
