Just a month before attending WCU I had no idea what I wanted my major to be. Originally, I had wanted to be a Music Major and work in the music industry. Once I further read on about the requirements to be a music major at WCU, I changed my mind. After that, I didn’t know what to do. I was awful with anything regarding science, history, and math. The only thing I was never really bad at was English; it had always been my stronger point in my K-12 classes. I always loved to read and would even get in trouble for reading in school, which is a bit upsetting since I could have just done what other students did and went in the bathroom and did drugs, but I was just reading. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with English. I knew I didn’t want to be a teacher, so what else could there be? I looked up the major on the WCU website and saw the listed concentrations and Professional Writing caught my eye. I looked further into it and it suddenly it just hit me that I would like to work within a publishing house. I started attending Western during Fall 2015. My first year I didn’t take any classes within my major, only liberal studies classes. Beginning this semester, I started my major classes. One of the classes that I took that had a larger influence on me than the others; this class was Intro to Professional Writing and Diane Martinez was the professor.
