Being a health science major there are many options for professions once I graduate. The profession that at this moment I am leaning towards is a job in Epidemiology. According the Center of Disease Control (CDC) epidemiology is defined as the study of the distribution and determinants of health-related issues in specified populations and applying this information to control the issue (Lesson 1, 2012). Epidemiology is a very fast growing profession because of the new technology and information we have today about different diseases. I have lived here all of my life and I know about a lot of the problems that are around here and I would love to try and attack them head on to help out my city. Also, because I love working with people I hope to work in a hospital of some kind. Many diseases are passed around inside of a hospital and it is hard to stop that. I want to work towards creating a better hospital environment for our patients so they will not have to worry about getting a different disease when they are in there for something else. That is definitely something that once I graduate I want to work on so our patients can stay healthier and hopefully get better quicker. One way that the Kaplan University Career Services can assist me is be helping me find an internship of some kind of the public health realm. I have a lot of patent care experience but none really in public health and it is important to have them when wanting a job in epidemiology. As said before, this profession is extremely community based and it is important to be able to communicate with them to get the message across. With having public health experience that will make it easier so I will have an idea of what should be done in the real
