“When I am called to duty, God, whenever flames may rage; give me strength to save some life, whatever be its age./ Help me embrace a little child before it is too late. Or save an older person from the horror of that fate./ Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout. And quickly and efficiently to put that fire out./ I want to fill my calling and give the best in me. To guard my neighbor and protect his property./ and if according to my fate, I am to lose my life, please bless with your protecting hand my children and my wife.” This is known as the Fireman’s Prayer. This prayer is not a luxury, this is a necessity. Firemen die every day, risking their lives to save others: it could be friends, family, or a complete stranger. Being a fireman is a risky profession. Gaining a brotherhood or sisterhood is an amazing thing, but it is not like any other normal family. The fireman that enters a new family must be trusted with the protection of the crew 's lives and also their own. Fire Fighting is not for everyone on the block. People seem to take their local departments for granted, but people do not seem to realize that this group shows a great importance to a community. Firemen also tend to reminisce on “the good ole’ times” or previous calls that could haunt them forever. This is the history of fire fighting.
