Getting to this point was not an easy journey. I was first employed by Walgreens as a beauty advisor and as such worked diligently to perform to my fullest potential. This, in turn, opened the doors to many new opportunities that ultimately resulted in being trained in the pharmacy. At the time, though, I had no idea what pharmacy even was and what it entailed, but was excited to find out.
Training began shortly after my 18th birthday and high school graduation. It was quite difficult understanding pharmacy policies and procedures, learning SIG coding and attempting to decipher doctors ' handwriting. At times I felt embarrassed asking the pharmacy manager for help on how to do certain procedures, especially when it came to billing insurance companies. I believe that my years of experience in this profession and the leadership role I obtained as a technician will help demonstrate that I can be a leader as a Pharmacist as well. I would also like to someday be a preceptor for other pharmacy students and also be an inspiration to those students who find themselves in a similar situation to mine and let them know that it is possible to reach your goals and dreams despite having a bumpy road along the way.
