I am applying to University of North Carolina Chapel Hill’s doctoral program in the Department of Behavioral Neuroscience. I hope that entering this program would allow me to advance towards reaching my doctorate. I am hoping that furthering my education through this program will allow me to study the neurobiology of substance use disorders what specific implications that they can have on the brain. I am also interested in possibly extending my studies to development of post-traumatic stress disorder effects on people as well as, other highly intelligent creatures, such as elephants or dolphins. I feel that this specific program would allow to me to gain a far larger knowledge of behavioral neuroscience as well as teach me how the properly conduct and record research experiments. My overall grade point average is a 3.20, my psychology degree major grade point average is a 3.36 and the GPA I have had for the past two years was 3.05. I have yet to take the GRE, but plan to this coming June. Though my grade point average may not be outstanding, as my letters of recommendation indicate, my experiences outside the classroom, give a better indication of my preparedness for graduate school. However, since I took the cognitive neural science class here at Mississippi State, it made it clear that this is truly what sparks my interest. Ever since then I have become extremely driven to succeed in my field and motivated to master and learn as much as possible. I am also have been a member of Psi Chi International Psychology Honor Society since the spring of 2015 and have been on the Mississippi State University Honor Roll for the past two years. My ultimate goal of pursuing graduate studies is to work in an academic setting and would deeply enjoy working as an assistant for Dr. Boettiger or the Dr. Lysle, as their areas of study fascinate me
