Firstly, reflecting on the lab simulation of our educational, behavioural intervention group, which was preforming in the working stage; with young women who were prenatal or postnatal; the socio-economic status was that of a lower income position. As facilitators we brought in our own life experience, and used informal educational tools and sharing to make the group feel inclusive. There was a member of the group who stated “she was scared” and one of the facilitators handled the emotions and feelings of the member and that she was not left feeling this way “promoting empowerment and equipping group members with tools so they may advocate for themselves” (Ratts, Anthony, & Santos, Social Justice in Group Work, p. 108).

The following recommendations may be helpful to XX and her family: XX’s educational needs will continue to require a comprehensive Individualized Education Program (IEP) with a team of providers with experience working with children with autism, training in Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), and experience successfully implementing behavioral interventions. She requires placement in a small, highly structured classroom that utilizes ABA methods to teach new skills. Comprehensive intervention services including speech, occupational therapy, and adaptive “life skills” training, should be integrated into her program. More generally, it is recommended that behavioral intervention strategies, such as those employed in Applied Behavioral Analyses (ABA), be an integral part of XX’s overall treatment plan both at home and at home (see: https://www.kennedykrieger.org/patient-care/patient-care-programs/inpatient-programs/neurobehavioral-unit-nbu/applied-behavior-analysis for a description and additional information). XX would benefit from consistent participation in ABA therapy at home in order to address any challenging behaviors that arise and generalize her skills to her home setting.…

The 4-hour block group lesson presentation went ok. I believe that the message was received, even though few things didn’t go the way I wanted them to go. The strengths of the lesson were probably when everyone understood how the program works and its pros and cons. Instead the areas that needed improvement were, the icebreaker, it wasn’t supposed to be assigned a letter, but anyone had to keep going with the alphabet being careful to not repeat the letter, but my partner forgot about it. Then, the grammar wall, maybe needed to be easier, less words and still sending the same message.…

Explain your understanding of the rationale for this EBP model. My time as a case manager, in a harm reduction program for homeless veterans has allowed me to have weekly sessions with a client for over two months now. The client is an Army vet with a history of substance abuse secondary to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In my effort to asses the client’s mental health on a weekly basis, I took notice in how the Feedback Informed Intervention (FIT), provided a unique opportunity for me and my client. Boswell, Kraus, Miller, & Lambert (2013) says there 's a moment in time when the patient and provider can look through a window together which the therapist and patient can catch glimpses into a unique world-view (Boswell, Kraus, Miller,…

Susan, you mentioned that both of your models included group therapy. I am a strong advocate of group therapy for substance abuse users. Group therapy can be the glue that keeps them held together as a unit. The same principle is applied with support groups such as AA, however a person is generally assigned a sponsor that they can call when they feel their sobriety is being threatened. Lewis (2014) explains the correlation between group therapy and recovery.…

Looking back on these goals, I wish that I would have chosen better dates for these to be completed by. I was also unable to meet my three short term goals.…
