Behavioral, Emotional And Physical Development In Adolescents

During the adolescences period, the brain and physical development in teens undergo various and drastic changes, these changes impact their behavioral, emotional and social skills. The adolescent character, Juno MacGuff, from the independent comedy film, Juno, demonstrate how crucial adolescent years are. The film shares the story of sixteen years old Juno, who experienced various obstacles as she goes through high school as a pregnant teenager. In addition, the film also demonstrates how imperative it is for middle and high school students to have effective teachers that can help them develop a healthy identity and motivate them to overcome challenges. The prefrontal cortex is the region that adults rely on and is involved in high level cognitive functions, such as, decision making (Blakemore, 2011). In teens, decision-making and other cognitive skills is heavily relied on another region, known as the limbic system (Bessant, 2010). As a result to relying on their limbic system, teens are susceptible to being highly emotional and impulsive. This explains why they engage in high risk behavior, such as unprotected sex (Blakemore, 2011), for example, Juno engaged in unprotected sex and as a result became pregnant. Initially, she went to the clinic to terminate the pregnancy; this decision is another example of how teens usually have the urge to make life changing decisions without considering the possible outcomes. However, she finds out that her baby has developed fingernails and decides to put the baby up for adoption …show more content…
For example, I will establish a general classroom rules so that students like Juno, will know what behaviors are acceptable and unacceptable in the classroom. In addition, authoritative approach to classroom management will also encourage students to participate in classroom discussions, which will help students develop a personal interest for the class and develop a deeper understanding to the lesson being taught (Snowman & McCown, 2015). Furthermore, if I were Juno’s teacher I will also make sure that I am available to answer any questions or concerns that she may have. This way if a particular lesson is not going as anticipated, I can assist her by being available and encouraging, instead of allowing her to lose focus on the work at
