Behavior Analyst Career Paper

The career I have chosen to look into is being a behavior analyst. The essential information about this career is they study all sorts of behaviors. They assess individuals with behavioral problems, study changes. This career focuses on behaviors that can be observed and measured. They do have some research in their job where they would conduct studies of measure specific influences, such as the environment, on behavior or look for new ways to solve behavior problems in specific audiences, whether its children or the elderly (“Study” 2003). As a behavior analyst, one must be able to identify problematic behavior and develop positive replacement. This allows the discovery of how to maintain a specified behavior and discover more appropriate replacement behaviors by creating a plan to teach them. Behavior analysts to not make judgments about behavior, instead, they seek to understand behavior and suggest ways to adjust/modify behaviors to increase personal happiness and quality of life (“Elite Behavior Analysis” 2012). In order to do the job well you must have certain skills such as: patience, ability to implement behavioral strategies you have learned, good communication skills, ability to work with people, flexible schedule, and more. Along with that, attention to detail, ability to work fast in a fast-paced work setting, strong verbal and written communication skills, experience writing functional behavioral assessments, and the ability to form positive relationships with clients, are important qualifications. It’s crucial that behavior analyst understand how to use applied behavior analysis and utilize techniques.
