“Beginner’s Guide on Blacksmithing” was written by Blanchard Raske, a blacksmith hailing from the southern reaches of [[Daendroc]]. Toward the end of his life, he had camecome to the realization that not all children are fortunate enough to gain an apprenticeship under a competent blacksmith. He offered this publication as a basic guide for young blacksmiths to follow in order to gain experience. It details basic blacksmithing techniques and how to create a dagger. This article is available to the public in most libraries around [[Regalia]] and its extended territories, and it was specifically created to appeal to commoners.

To put it simply you need four things:; aA thing to heat your work, a thing to hold your work, a thing to put under your work, and a thing to apply forces to your work. These things change depending on what you may be working on, the metal you are working on, and the conditions in your forge, but for this exercise we will assume that everything is optimal, or nearly so.

In order to heat your work you will need access to a forge, this can be found in blacksmithing shops that dot Aloria’s landscape, nearly any major city and town has one. Ask the blacksmith if you can use the forge after working hours and you should be able to practice. He will most likely show you how to use it so you don’t kill yourself, butand I won’t be detailing that here. Just know that using a coke forge is more optimal than a coal

The Odyssey by Homer holds many symbols and ideas that sink the story further into itself but, one of the most prominent symbols is the the Odysseus’s bow. This weapon, given to the hero in his travels as a prince, presents a key to further understanding the depth of the epic. The bow is used to symbolize the hero’s relationship with Penelope, the will of Odysseus, and irony of the suitor’s peril. Just as the bow has been restrained from its’ owner, Penelope, the queen of Ithaka, has been without her husband for 20 long years, has waited patiently for the hero to return. This weapon, like the queen, has power, but until the hero returns, the potential- be it dangerous like the bow or guideful like Penelope- remains unreachable.…

There were many more jobs than I expected to find during this period. Some of the jobs I have never even heard of before, or had other names for trades than we do today, such as the milliner was basically a tailor. Unlike the tailor, however, the milliner was selling accessories as well as clothes but didn’t sell any fabric to customers. Being a cooper meant that you would be making barrel containers ranging in various sizes and tightness of wood to hold things ranging from liquids to flour. The barrels they crafted look very similar to the wine barrels we use today to ferment wine.…

Of the latter it could be say that many systems were already functioning by this time, such as the telegraphs, railroads networks, between others. The railroads, for example, were usually constructed with wrought iron and, apart from making rails, it was also used for constructing (buildings) and machinery parts. Nonetheless, wrought iron was not as desired as the steel, as the latter was stronger. In this matter, before the Bessemer process was invented in the late 1850´s by an Englishmen, there was not a way to produce it efficiently nor massively. With the creation of the Bessemer process the latter changed making a lot of firms that were once producers of iron, to be determined to go for the production of steel, such as Bolckow Vaughan’s (which was one of many firm located in Cleveland, Britain).…
