Ludwig Van Beethoven was born in December 1770 in Bonn, Germany. His father was a musician in Bonn. Beethoven was interested in music from an early age and when his father was at home, his father would teach Beethoven music. He learned to play the piano and the clavier, an instrument like a harpsichord. His father would punish him when he made mistakes or hesitated and that affected Beethoven's life and future. On March 26th, 1778, when he was seven years old, he had his first concert. When Beethoven was 12, he published his own piece and it was composed by Dressler. Shortly after he got back home, the Holy Roman Emperor, Joseph II died. Beethoven was given the honor of writing a piece called "Cantata on the Death of Joseph II” but it was never performed. In 1791, Mozart died and that made Joseph Hayden the greatest composer alive. Beethoven started learning from Hayden, who taught him piano, Johann Albrechtsberger, who taught him counterpart, and Antonio Salieri, who taught him choral. Beethoven wrote classical music but, he was a key part of the movement from classical to romantic music. Beethoven wrote Ninth Symphony between 1822 and 1824. As he grew older, he started having hearing problems and soon became deaf. He is the only person to have ever composed a piece while being completely deaf. On March 26th, 1827, at age 56, Beethoven died. He is one of the greatest composers because he composed a piece after he was deaf and the fact that he composed music for himself.
