At 10 years old he quit school and studied music full time with Christian Gottlob Neefe, the newly appointed Court Organist, by whom he was introduced to Johann Sebastian Bach. At 12 years old he published his first composition of piano variations. When his father's alcoholism got to the point that he was not be able to support his family, Beethoven requested an official appointment as Assistant Court Organist, which he received and he was put on the payroll. Beethoven made a reputation as a virtuoso pianist and was especially skillful at improvisation. On March 29, 1975 he made his public debut in Vienna. After this he had published his piano trios, "Opus 1,” which became very financially successful. His "Symphony No. 1 in C major" was played at the Royal Imperial Theater in Vienna on April 2, 1800.
