The Disappearance of Bees What would be the agricultural significance if our bees, the world’s most important pollinators, gradually disappeared over time? The answer: the agriculture industry will experience shortages in food, lose profits, and heavy pressure will be placed on farmers who won’t be able to meet demands for food. The world is seeing an increase of bees missing every year, and it’s all thanks to a mysterious phenomenon called Colony Collapse Disorder. In order to prevent the bees from dying out and disappearing for good due to Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), farmers should reduce the practice of monoculture, reduce the use of pesticides in our food crops, and plant a variety of flowers for the bees.…

Communities of people and ecosystems in nature both work hand in hand in order to achieve one goal -- to ensure that all of their components function and work smoothly. When one thinks about their community, they have to take into consideration all of its parts that help in making it run smoothly. These components of a community can include things like those who produce, consume, and decompose or break down. Consequently if one of those key components becomes damaged or missing, it can have harmful ripple effect throughout the entire community. One important example that ties into this idea today are the issues with the honey bee populations all across the world.…

Joachim Hagopian uses strong sources to effectively build his credibility, he cites convincing facts and statistics to make an appeal to logos, but does not portray a de-emphasis of pathos during which he writes about honeybees’ importance in making our food, and how rapidly they are disappearing. Honeybees have been vanishing at an alarming pace since 2006.…

They are by far the most well-known pollinators, and if they ever were to go extinct, we would say good-bye to crops such as almonds, apples, avocados, and oranges (Good). Beekeepers in North America have noticed a rapid decline in their honey bee populations since 2006 (Hagopian). I spoke with two beekeepers, Tommy McCaffrey and Roy Clingon in Purvis, Mississippi, who gave me their insight on why the honey bee population has been declining in recent years. For my field research, I went to the homes of both Mr. McCaffrey and Mr. Clingon.…
