The leadership role in which I have had the greatest positive influence in has been as the Fine Arts Commissioner in ASB. As the Fine Arts Commissioner, it is my responsibility to showcase the performing arts in any way I possibly can, and while I have successfully done that, I’ve also successfully created a new rally that now occurs every year. Even though last year was my first year on ASB, I still made an impact on my school by taking charge of said new rally. My ASB director wanted to try having an on-campus winter dance before winter break and we figured the best way to promote the new dance would be through a rally. In addition, my ASB director didn’t want to have cheer and dance perform in this rally, for they perform in every other…

With this position, I assumed the responsibilities of planning events that students wished to attend, helping to create eye-catching posters, and adhering to Student Government approved budgets. Although the Ping-Pong Club had a vice president and treasurer, as president, I took it upon myself to make sure that deadlines were met, meetings were held, and events ran smoothly. Although not tremendously stressful, it was difficult to make sure that tasks were completed. During this time, I learned the importance of delegation.…

My 12-week internship at Tierra Madre Horse Sanctuary was almost exactly what I expected from this course. After switching to the Non-Profit Leadership and Management degree I was immediately intimidated by the thought of my final semester being nothing but internship work, but it turned out to be not as scary I as thought it would. Working the non-profit field has its own set of challenges and I believe that horse rescue has an even deeper set of challenges. Tierra Madre is a special kind of rescue, which is why we call ourselves a ‘sanctuary’. All of the animals that come through our gates call Tierra Madre a forever home.…

My internship experience was experiential, very educational, and stressful at times. I will never be able to thank you enough, Dr. Wigley, because of you, I was given the opportunity to ask about Allied’s internship program when they were our guest speaker in our Intro to PR course of fall semester 2015. Summer of 2016 I was interested in attaining experience in the real world of PR, so I had originally conversed with former Senior Publicist, Kelsey of Allied’s Hispanic division because I was very intrigued and knew I always wanted to have a profession where I could utilize my bilingual expertise. I emailed her my resume and later received an interview request with Tonya. It ended up being a group interview, which ended up going well for me because I answered every question she asked the group.…
