We have been learning about the Holocaust and World War 2 for many years as part of our social studies curriculum. Most of us probably, and I hope, know that this was a bad thing for Hitler to do and be a part of. The story Night by Elie Wiesel shares her personal experiences of being kicked out of her hometown and being transported to the camps, what happened at the camps and the impact it had on her, and how there was so much death going on and barely anybody survived. Kristallnacht was a series of raids, burnings and violence set off by the death of a German official killed by a teenage Jew on November 9th and 10th, 1938. This death enraged the Nazi Party officials who encouraged the violence by giving instructions to local officials. This lead to social expectations of the war. People, especially German soldiers were under the impression this event was not wrong and believed anything that came to them from their commanders. Some of the instructions given to local officials included making sure that non-jewish people and property was protected and not affected by the violence.…

It has been proved time and time again, that students are happier when they get the opportunity of having a summer break. Without a summer break students don't perform the best of their ability. The school calendar should not run year-round because students perform better, and extra costs are avoided, however students would have more learning opportunities. All year long I look forward to summer. It's a time to be with friends, have no homework, and be carefree.…

This year the Annual Literacy Festival was titled Strange Bedfellows and was mainly about Politics and Literature. This title was chosen to be the theme this year because of the new upcoming president that will be elected and all of the politics that are taking place right now. All of the participants this year were chosen based off of the fact that they all connect to “poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and have attempted to make sense and art out of political actualities” (Old Dominion University Libraries). The festival took place from Sunday September 25th to Thursday September 29th at different locations on campus. The event that I attended was held at the Baron and Ellie Gordon Art Galleries, I really enjoyed where the event took place because…

Night Journals Journal 1 Due to the extraordinary circumstances that come with forced imprisonment, I believe that all morals and incentives for human decency in a desperate situation will be extremely diminished, if not fully suppressed. Consequently, desirable character traits in a more social world (altruism, empathy, compassion) are no longer idolized as the hallmarks of an ideal individual: Instead, antisocial traits such as cunning, ruthlessness and apathy will provide more of an advantage to a man or woman who must fight for their survival. If I were placed in this situation, I would find it difficult, if not impossible, to adapt to the latter traits, simply because of the society I have lived in and grown accustomed to. I would look…
