Bed Room Descriptive Writing

The lights were just turned off. Everyone was laying in their beds. You could hear them shifting in their bunkbeds in effort to get comfortable while causing the old black rugged beds to squeak. I was tucked into my bed with only my head exposed on my top bunk staring up at the ceiling in the darkness. It was always hard for me to go to bed because of the high pane windows that brought light in from the street lights. You could hear the other guys getting out of bed at random times to go use the latrine (bathroom). It was in the month of July 2009. I was in basic training in San Antonio, Texas in attempt to be a part of the United States Air Force. After another fifteen to twenty minutes my training instructor would leave for the night to go back to his family and be back in the morning to wake us up for morning physical training. As soon as Technical Sergeant Crawford left, the majority of us in the barracks would quietly get out of bed and go to our respective wall lockers where all of our belongings were. With the intention not to wake up the few men who decided to sleep and to not flag the audio monitor system that was in our barracks. It is a little depressing when I say it like that. I enjoyed very little in basic because you already knew each day what you were in for. We would receive our letters around lunch time and immediately had to put them away in our wall lockers. When you are given a letter, it is equivalent to receiving a present on Christmas day. All you can think about all day is who is it from and what does it say? Has anything exciting happened in the world that you missed? Is there any good news? Any bad news? When you go to basic training you are disconnected from the world and you have to solely rely on your loved ones to keep you up to date on the news and the events that are going on in the world both personal and
