At first, Darling was just a magazine that my mom accidently stole from Anthropologie, and I kept it on my coffee table because the magazine was so well made that it made my coffee table look fancier. I would flip through the magazine every now and then to look at the photography and drawings, but I never paid close attention to what was written inside because it was different from the other magazines I was used to reading. Finally, I decided to read the magazine, but I felt intimidated by the magazine because I thought it was mainly for women who were older and part of the upper class. Also, I never heard of the magazine before, and since it was in a store that sold door knobs for upwards of twenty-eight dollars, I figured this magazine was not for a nineteen-year-old college student. When I was in middle school I was part of a church group called Pathfinders; and being a part meant that every holiday the group would do volunteer work for the community. Around thanksgiving we would collect food, walking door to door, and later give it to a local food kitchen. And around Christmas time there would be a toy collection for families in need. Having this past experience under my belt, it motivated me to volunteer my time with other students from Kean at the local food pantry. Another reason why I chose this volunteer work was because the other options did stick out to me as so impactful as this one.…
