Becoming The Wind By Paulo Coelho

Becoming the Wind During the climax of the novel, the chief of the tribe holding the Alchemist and Santiago hostage, challenges the boy to turn himself into the wind or face death, and Santiago must use everything he he has learned throughout his journey to accomplish this seemingly impossible task. The boy stands on a high cliff with the Alchemist and the chief, and figuratively converses with the wind and sky. At first, the boy is nervous, but after spending three days trying to figure out how to himself into the wind, he is calm and determined to successfully accomplish what he needs to do. The wind asks the boy how he has learned to speak the language of the world and he replies, “My heart” (Paulo Coelho). He believes that he can turn himself into the wind as a result of all the things he has learned on his long journey to realize his Personal Legend. …show more content…
He has become someone who wants to listen to his heart and follow his dreams, even if they seem impossible. Earlier in the story, he was living his life tending his sheep and not thinking much about his dreams or his future. Now, he feels confident that he is ready to tackle anything, and has more confidence then the elements he is conversing with. “‘I don't understand what you’re talking about,’ the desert said” (Coelho). This is showing that Santiago knows more about life than the wind
