As I laid in the hospital bed, not knowing when I was to be released, I dreadfully counting the days, fearing that I would never be able to walk again. Because I was entirely alone, the dreading time allowed my mind to wander. I hated myself for jumping the hurdles at school on that fateful day in an attempt to show off, and hated that my family was back in Egypt and Spain, and not around to comfort me. I chose my future career, and I decided to become an orthopedic surgeon. Orthopedic surgeons practically saved my life, and I knew I wanted to do the same for others. They also helped me develop myself as an individual, becoming morally and mentally ready for the challenge that lay ahead. I will always be grateful for their care, which made me feel that I owed it to myself to follow in their footsteps. Life presents various situations, some of which are too overwhelming. However, if someone can routine themselves to always identify the positive messages in those terrible situations, they can learn from it and use their newfound knowledge as motivation. I came to a realization that learning a lesson from a rough time is more valuable than having an excellent time with no lesson
