Personal Narrative: Joining The Engineering Club

Improved Essays
When joining an organization of some sort, everyone in that particular organization shares the same knowledge or interest. Many people assume you join an organization because you already have knowledge of what the organization is about, but I believe even if you don’t have the knowledge before joining doesn’t mean you can’t join. For me, I had trouble fitting in at the Engineering Club at my High School. I didn’t have any knowledge about engineering before joining the club, but that didn’t stop me, I was still interested to find out what it was all about. You might ask why join this club and well you were able to learn things you couldn’t learn in classroom or books such, learning how to collaborate with other people you don’t know, how to …show more content…
It was also the day where I had to prove to everyone else that I deserved to be part of the team, but first I had to come across many obstacles. By the time I entered the classroom where the club meets everyone was already choosing what part of the robot they wanted to work on. The options were the wheels, arm, base, and programming. For certain I didn’t know how to program so that was out of the question from the other three choices I had left I decided to work on the wheels which didn’t seem too difficult to do. The size of the wheels was already drawn on the piece of wood it was just my turn to cut them out and sand them. I went to the back and picked up the electric jig saw to begin cutting out the wheels. I had no idea how to use the power tools so I asked one of the officers for …show more content…
So I decided to talk to the officers in private and tell them I was sorry for screwing up the first two times. The officers then started to laugh, saying it reminded them how they were when they first joined the club it brought back all their memories of how badly they messed up and just continued to laugh. This wasn’t a lousy situation though, they said it happens to everyone. They even offered to help me learn more about engineering and the terms and that I had great ideas, even though I didn’t think they were. Overall they still wanted me on their team no matter what It didn’t matter if I had knowledge of engineering to begin with I was finally one of them. They even offered me a spot on their team for the next competition, they would be doing next semester call T.A.R.C which the club would need to split into two teams since there is a team member

On Wednesday, September 21st, the junior and senior class of my school went to Franklinton High School—where we were introduced to post-secondary institutions such as state universities and local community colleges. I admittedly already had a fair idea of what I planned on doing after school. My “carefully thought-out plan” was this: I would go to Northshore Technical Community College in the summer to get my CNA so that I can gain the patient-care experience necessary for my later plans for college. I would then attend LSU for four years and earn a bachelor’s in dietetics, and possibly minor in psychology. Afterward, I would attend a PA school somewhere within the US—possibly the one at LSU.…
