Becoming An Excellent Cheerleader

Being successful doesn't always come easy. I have learned that to be successful I have work hard and have a positive mind. Failure isn't something that makes me feel successful but in reality, I almost always fail before I succeed. However, I have realized that in order to be an excellent cheerleader, I fail before I succeed. One part of cheerleading that requires a tremendous amount of technique is tumbling. Tumbling always came fairly easy to me but when I started working on a double full I began to doubt my ability to tumble easily. My first time doing a double full, at my tumbling gym called Flipout, I was very confident that I would land the trick. With little teaching, I went for the trick and ended up over rotating and fell flat on my back. I was really discouraged when I didn't land the trick but I got back up and tried again. I continued to fail, but I wasn't going to give up. One day, I told myself that I could do this trick and that fear is just in my head. So I tried again, and I landed it. This experience helped me realize that if I fall, I just need to get back up and try again. …show more content…

This stunt is very elite, and it takes a lot of strength and power. I was a backspot, the person who controls the stunt. My group was having trouble hitting the stunt a couple days before the state competition. We fell what seemed to be a million times. We almost gave up but then we decided to switch the two bases and the stunt hit. I couldn't believe how easy the stunt became. This experience taught me that if I try new things I will

This photo is of a Washington State Cheerleader performing a full basket. To perform this stunt, 3 bases interlock their arms while the top girl stands crouched down on their hands. The bases dip down and then throw the top girl as high as they can into the air in a straight line as the top girl stands up. She performs a stunt when she feels weightless at the top of the throw. In this photo, you can clearly see that she is twisting her body on two different axes, but I will only be talking about her twisting on the vertical axis.…

The athletes ability to participate among other individuals who experience the same disability or different, to be normalized and given a purpose on a team with an exceptional outcome was phenomenal. There were only a few minor difficulties present during practices which included staying focused, learning ability, and social interactions. Occupational Therapy can be used to address the difficulties above, such as: Making sure each athlete is involved with minimal background distraction and allowing breaks in between cheers to maximize their full potential. The breakdown of each step in a cheer, allowing for accurate sequencing and categorization to fully understand the cheers. Social interaction is important when participating in a team sport.…

According to Jacobson, Morawa, and Bir (2012), out of the 4,245 cases of cheerleading accidents 11.6% of them were injuries to the back. Cheerleading has become a high level sport and with that has come an increase in injuries. On average cheerleaders spend 10.7 years in competitive cheerleading; the most common complaint of these cheerleaders is back pain (Waters, 203).…
