The occupation of becoming an educator is not one that should be taken lightly, shaping the minds of young students is something that is key for the future of American success. That being said, obtaining the necessary degree in order to be able to teach is not as easy as some might think. The discourse community of educators is one that is very diverse and plentiful, and once one has taken the necessary steps to become an educator it is an extremely rewarding profession.

Currently I am going through education school to become a first grade teacher, and there are many courses already under my belt and many more to go. Typically it would take the full four years to receive a degree in EC-Six elementary education, but I will be completing it in three because I will be taking summer classes. One thing many students end up doing is taking summer courses in order to graduate earlier than they originally would. Along with having to take many courses there are also a mandatory amount of observation hours that each student must acquire and the grade level changes per semester, so this semester I am observing toddlers ages two to three, but next semester I will be observing children ages four to five. Students in the EC through six program will have the opportunity to observe in the classroom and interact with children up to the sixth grade, this is done to allow for the people in the program to receive a clear view as to whether-or-not they actually want to become an educator. But I was not always so excited about becoming a …show more content…
When I was a child I always thought that I would be a Marine Biologist, the idea of being out on the water observing the oceans currents; diving into the great unknown hoping to find new sea creatures; living near the ocean; all of these were things I wanted and thought I could do. I was accepted to A&M Galveston and I was prepared to become a marine biologist until I realized that I was going to have to take way too many science courses and so I dropped marine biology and began searching for other possible majors. I had always been good with children and my family had always pushed me to consider becoming a teacher because of it, so I set up a tour with my mom to come to Stephen F. Austin and ended up falling in love with the campus so I became an education major. I settled on first grade because my first grade teacher was not only my favorite teacher, but she also helped me through my parents getting a divorce. I feel like if she was able to make such a huge and positive impact on me then I will be able to leave a positive impact on a child somewhere that might need it. I also enjoy spending time with younger children versus older children, they are fun and enjoy dancing around and singing, playing with games and acting like young kids and I feel like I would be good at that. There are many articles that I have read over the last few weeks, but two in particular really challenged my thinking and philosophy in regards to education. In the article, “Edwin & Phyllis,” Lynn Fendler engages her readers with a meaningful dialogue between an experienced teacher and a prospective educator, debunking some of the more traditional responses that young, perspective teachers might give for wanting to become educators. The truth is that teaching can be anything but glamorous and oftentimes straddles the fine line between causing more harm then the good that it seeks to accomplish in the life of a child. Prospective teachers must not only think about what motivates them in wanting to become educators, but what type of teachers…

Growing up I never had a clear idea of what I wanted to do as a profession. No inclination of something that amazed me or pushed me toward it. 1 I come from a long line of educators and administrators on both sides of my family. Various relatives of mine have taught me to understand and appreciate the importance of education. This being the case, they have inspired my decision to be a teacher, preferably an elementary school teacher. Last year, I sat in on my aunt’s third grade class at Washington Irving, an elementary school in my district that I attended for three years. After visiting the classroom a handful of times, I absolutely fell in love.…

My life plan after college was to be an engineer for less than ten years and then become a teacher. Over my years at LSU, it has been made clear that I definitely do not have a passion for petroleum engineering. However, I got a job coaching children at LSU Gymnastics and I realized that I really do love working with kids.…

Teaching, one of the most intense, emotionally demeaning, and downright time taking careers anyone can undertake. Yet, every year college students enter into education programs seeking out this occupation. However, knowledge about the subject is not enough, being a teacher is not the same as a presenter; meaning, those in the education profession must have a degree of people skills and class management skills. This is not to say however that aspiring educators need to be strict and stern when it comes to the classroom and managing situations; pedagogues are not teachers, they are drill instructors for the next Marine platoon. To be a proper teacher there is a balance of rules, understanding, and ethics.…
