Becoming An Adult Essay

Improved Essays
The realities of becoming an adult are approaching many young adults at a rapid rate, more rapid than some may think. It is crazy how quick everything happens as we transition into adulthood during our high school years. Some have to make the transition quicker than others depending on their home life, as well as how mature and ready for adulthood they are. A quote that resonates with me regarding adulthood Comes from Ricky Schroder, an actor and film producer. "I spent my whole childhood wishing I were older and now I'm spending my adulthood wishing I were younger". This quote is very important to me because life was so easy when I was a kid, my parents cooked for me, drove me around, I had birthday parties every year, and Santa used to come. …show more content…
Cars are expensive items and become more expensive as they grow older, especially when it is 19 years old with 296,000 miles on it like mine. As vehicles get older and rack up more miles, they tend to start to wear out and become costly to repair quite frequently. Most of my money from my paycheck every 2 weeks goes into repairing my vehicle because I feel as if there is always something wrong with it. As an adult deciphering between keeping my current vehicle and getting a new vehicle is a tough decision. I have thought about it tons, sure we all want a new car, but we have to be practical in our decision making as an adult. The way I see it, I would rather fix and repair my car than have a car payment every single month for 3-5 years. Adulthood has many pros and cons. We experience more freedom as adults, but we have to manage those freedoms and counteract them with responsibilities. As an adult I have much more freedom, my parents used to be really strict, I would have to be home by 10 on weekends, and 8 on weekdays, I never was able to stay the night at friends' houses, Now that I am 18 they don't care when I come home or where I stay, as long as they know where I am at and I communicate with …show more content…
I do a lot around my house, I manicure the lawn, take care of the landscaping, clean house, and much more. I sometimes feel obligated to do some of the things around the house because my dad works the night shift at Frito Lay and often works 7 days a week because they are short on people, so therefore he sleeps during the day and I feel bad when he has to stay awake to mow the lawn or take care of the landscaping.. My mom works at Propane Central and has a very stressful job and all she wants to do when she is off work is come home and relax so I enjoy cleaning the house and doing dishes and chores so that she doesn't have to. I also live next door to my grandparents, they are getting older so I help out as much as I can with yard work, their gigantic garden and little odds and ends around the house. My grandpa has 7 cows so I like to help him out by taking care of the cattle when I can. All in all, adulthood can be very fun if you make the best of it and are responsible in the decisions you make. I can't wait to see where adulthood takes me. Who knows I could end up somewhere completely unexpected doing something I never would've dreamt

Unit 7: Occupational Engagement of the Adult Adulthood represents a time of increased independence and a decline in supervision and structure that is prominent in adolescents and childhood. The exact definition of what makes someone an adult is unclear; however, social characterization, changes in occupational engagement and a shift in roles explain the emergence of adulthood. This age period is marked by dramatic life changes as one transitions from adolescence to adulthood. I don’t have a coming of age story. I don’t suddenly “become of age”, slowly I mature and grow so I can live without the aid of others. The change from childhood to adulthood is not sudden, but very subtle. My parents don't suddenly treat me differently, they slowly add responsibilities as I grow up. At first, this change is not as noticeable, but looking back I realize how much I have grown.…
