Importance Of Vocation

A person’s vocation is not necessarily the same as their career path. Whatever ones vocation may be, it is certainly shaped by one or more events throughout their life. I truly believe that the love I feel for helping others, coupled with the trials and tribulations I’ve dealt with in a past relationship have helped steer me towards a vocation that I can fulfill wholeheartedly.
I am currently taking advantage of several volunteer opportunities at my church. I am learning to become a youth leader for high school students. I believe this is something that is going to help clarify my vocation. I am also becoming leader of the hospitality at church on Sundays. I love to cook and feel this is a great way to meet new people, interact with others, and participate in the success of the church. A lot of women who experience abuse suffer from psychological injury. As bad as this was, I was able to escape with a whole heart, and a strong will. This is what god has shown me through the past 6 years of being out of that relationship. Recently I have been volunteering at a women’s shelter in my community. Even though I have yet to do anything profound, I feel a sense of joy and accomplishment as God works through me.
As you can see, a vocation is not a career. Each of the things I have described, were not my job or part of any career. The experiences that I have had, both good and bad, have started to define my vocation for me. The more I interact with others, put myself out there and help a fellow person, the better I believe I will be able to understand. So as far as my vocation is concerned, I am not exactly sure what my precise calling is, but I see it becoming more obvious as time begins to pass, and God stats to reveal what it is his plan for me
