In Stephen King’s, On Writing, he tells of his journey and struggles in becoming a writer. In high school, he was known for having a, “restless pen,” and his teachers knew that he needed an outlet for his thoughts. He opens by explaining how he had been called to the school’s office, but unlike any normal situation, he was there to see the guidance counselor, not the principal. The guidance counselors had been notified of a position at Lisbon’s Weekly Enterprise, as a sports reporter. King is offered the position, and although apprehensive, he jumps at the attempt to make a name for himself; King had previously been rejected by Dave’s Rag and The Drum.
