Which is something I am very good at, I write constantly, whether it’s for school or I am just writing something on my own. In order to be a good writer, you also have to be an avid reader so you can know what to write and how to write correctly, with proper grammar. I am at a college reading level, and I read moreover all than almost everyone in my pre AP ELA class. In every one of my classes my teachers have always commented regarding how much they loved my writing and I have never gotten below a B on a writing assignment. Having to apply what I learned from each essay has really helped me a lot. By learning to use MLA style to have a better look throughout my essays, and fixing unnecessary semicolon and using commas when needed to avoid run on sentences or fragments, as well as eliminating to-be verbs for shorter more detailed sentence, and how to use work or words that aren't mine correctly to avoid plagiarism. From learning all those things, it has totally changed my way of writing because the way I used to go about my written, is not even close to how ENGL 101 changed me to being a better writer than I was before.…

At the beginning of the course I thought I was an “okay” writer. A lot of times I didn’t realize the mistakes that I was making even after reviewing my writings myself because I would correct these small detail in my head as I read loud. What I noticed that I did a lot in my writings before was use “you” a lot, frequent verb tense errors, and I also had to get use to using the Purdue OWL APA format. Over the past weeks my writings have gotten better from very minimal verb tense errors if any and I think that I have the hang of the APA format. To continue strengthening my writing I will make use of the thesaurus more often to minimize “clutch” words or repetition and increase my vocabulary.…

Adequate writing was always a struggle for me because I struggled with coming up with topics to write about. Even when teachers gave us prompts to write about I struggled writing about them mostly because I thought writing was boring. Another reason I was discouraged by writing was I would spend hours at a time trying to come up with ideas for a prompt and would barely come up with any ideas to write about. Being a civil engineering major I see why writing is so important in my career field. My experience with writing has had its good moments and its bad moments.…

According to a study done by Achieve Inc. in 2005, fifty percent of students that graduate high school are not prepared for college-level writing (Santrock, 2011, 370). While this lack of preparedness roots all the way back to the beginning of learning how to write, a great deal of knowledge about becoming a better writer can be learned in high school English classes if the teachers apply different writing techniques. In chapter eleven of John Santrock’s textbook Educational Psychology and Sharon Zumbrunn and Keegan Krause’s article “Conversations with Leaders: Principles of Effective Writing Instruction” many best practices for teaching writing are given in hopes to provide teachers with numerous ways to teach their students to become better…

As a student teacher, I would recommend students like me to get help with writing problems early. I still get help when it comes down to writing an essay. I’m also still learning how to be a better writer. When I think about writing, I always think about English classes doing most of the writing but writing is essential in every subject. I label myself as not being a writer but someday it’s going to be my duty to teach others to be.…

It just seems easier to just push writing away, maybe because I feel I don’t have the confidence on what it takes to be a “good writer”. But who is a good writer or what does it mean to me to be a good writer? Complete sentences, punctuation, capitalization, grammar, transition, emotions, writing format, being interested in a topic, grabbing the reader’s attention, a theme, these are all what I consider to be what good writing is or what a good writer does. I hope that as I take this class that my role and expectations involve learning how to use all of those aspects in my writing for in the future.…

I have always considered my relationship with writing to be very insignificant. Although I enjoy spending time verbally expressing my thoughts and feelings to others, it becomes difficult when these thoughts and feelings are expressed through writing. Throughout my adolescent years, I would often receive feedback for my writing given by the teacher in the form of a grade. Being unable to effectively organize my thoughts and ideas into words and sentences, I would feel reluctant to continue writing confidently whenever I received an undesirable grade.…
