Becoming A Writer: A Personal Analysis

Improved Essays
I started writing about six years ago, but I never seriously thought of becoming a writer until last year. When I was younger, it was always more of a hobby, something I did that other people said I was good at, and I was like, “Okay, I’ll keep doing this.” I liked doing it but I always thought just liking it wasn’t enough, but now that I’m older I’m starting to realize the act of writing isn’t the most important part for me, it’s the storytelling that has tethered me to this profession. The stories are what I love and what I’m passionate about. I’ve been so impacted by all the stories I’ve collected, and I want to make others feel the bubbling awe that I feel. I want to be a writer but the title isn’t as important to me as it once was because …show more content…
Not only am I moving away for college, I’m moving out of state. And not only am I moving out of state, I’m moving from Illinois to Alaska. That’s 3,000 plus miles of separation from my family and friends. I won’t know anyone; I’ve never been to Alaska. I will have to build a life for myself and learn how to survive from scratch, which will affect me. It’ll be an invaluable experience having to adapt to a new environment as a writer because experience is essential if you want to be a good writer. You have to do things outside your comfort zone. The more you do and the more people you meet and more places you go you will just become a repertoire to draw from and that is that is how you become a good writer and that is how you become a better person because you're exposed to so much more than you would be if you just stayed in your state for your whole life. APU seems like a strange place in the best way. I’d never even heard of the school, I just stumbled upon it. But its low profile and eclectic programs appealed to me greatly. It's something you have to seek out and you have to have service drive and motivation and interest and what you want to do and where you want to do it to go here I think so I'm excited to be surrounded by the kind of people who are seeking out what they want to do and fervently pursuing it. It'll be a good place for me to be because it's so unlike anything I've ever experienced and I just think it's up interesting and invigorating

A series of small waves pressed the sail boat against the alge dock as his cold and cracked hands desperately yanked on the rope in an effort to raise the sails. Dark clouds had moved in the night before and had stayed overnight providing a refreshing sprinkle of rain every now and then. He looked out over the vast plain of unsettled water and saw one individual white cap rise up among the rest only to be pushed back down. Due to the lack of sunlight the frigid water appeared black and lifeless but he knew that below it was a complex community of different species. He then bent over the side of the boat and reached for its securing ropes.…

When reading The Everyday Writer, written by Andrea A. Lunsford, director of the program in writing and rhetoric at Stanford University, I realized the importance of revising and reviewing of writing. Learning the process of writing will help greatly; therefore, assignments in the future will be more advanced and proper. In fact, peer editing is a fantastic strategy for the perfect paper; sometimes when one edits their own work they might overlook a few things, having someone else edit the paper gives another perspective to the writing. Being open to another opinion and attaining other opinions can open the mind to improve the writing. Seaman High School, where I attend, offers the Writing Center, ran by students and staff is to help improve…

The biggest challenge had to face when it came to writing was in my senior year of high school. During the summer of my senior year we had to read this called the “The Mis-Education of the Negro” by Carter G. Woodson. I thought this was just going to be another read and reflect paper, but it turn out to be a 5 page analysis. We had to break down the book chapter by chapter and explain how the book relates to today’s society. The reason why this was challenging because I couldn’t understand the language that the author was using.…

As a writer I am very organized, not only in the structure of my writing, but in the content as well. What also tends to describe my writing is that I am able to capture the attention of my intended audience, and keeping it throughout the length of the piece I am writing. Writing is extremely important in my academic life, it improves how I am able to express myself in writing, not only in this english class but in a business and economic class too. For example, if I have to write a speech, knowing that I have a strong foundation and the wrote a good paper will give me the extra confidence to deliver the speech. Writing also transfers into my personal and public life.…

By looking back at my writing experiences, I can tell that writing does not come naturally to me and find it to be a real challenge. I may think I did well while writing but in reality I did horrible. It takes me a while to write a paper then other people and there tends to be plenty of problems that try to slow me down. One of the hardest problems I have while writing is trying to find the right words to say. Every time I write I always take longer than anyone else because I always second guess what I just wrote and have to rewrite what I am trying to say.…

I wrote a little, I don't remember what it was about, probably something nonfiction, but it only lasted for a couple months. I would love to make up a story if someone would do the physical writing for me. But, I don’t see that ever happening there for myself ever becoming an author I can’t remember ever learning to write, and that had an effect on my unwillingness to do so. But, thankfully last year in Mr.Titherley’s class a learned a lot. His class improved and pushed my writing abilities in so many ways.…

The introduction is very good and it does give you an idea of what the paper is about. The writer mentions his main points through the paper and it engages the reader to the paper. The content is very good and the topic sentences develop each paragraph towards the content of the writers ideas. It just needs a litlle more organization for some of the concepts he is expressing…

I’m the kind of writer who likes to take their time to plan out what to write before I put it together. Once I have my thoughts down on paper I piece them together. I like to read over my writing a few times just to make sure nothing was forgotten, misspelled, or added incorrectly. Honestly, when it comes to writing, I’m kind of a perfectionist just like I happen to be with everything else (photography, baking, any arts and crafts and so much more).…

As we all know, the final Unit assignment is a personal reflection about what I’ve learned and who I am as a writer. In my opinion, only talking about everything I learned can be really a boring thing, I prefer to talk more about myself, my changes throughout the semester. After all, most of people like biographies much more than academic reports. You should know, readers, as a writer, I have an obvious difference from others. Over the course of this semester I learned a handful of things about myself as a writer, that will help me develop as a more proficient writer over the course of my four years here. As a writer one of my strengths is backing up my argument with solid and concrete evidence that truly makes the reader believe what they are reading. Another area of my writing that I excel in is being able to process great ideas that follow the guidelines and the prompt. With that being said I have also seen that while the ideas may come with ease, I do have a challenging time with getting the ideas from my head onto paper in a manner that isn’t so disorganized that it makes the reader second guess themselves. Another shaky part of my writing comes much before the actual forming of sentences.…
