The thing I want to do after school I want to become a welder. When you are a welder you work in a wide variety of industries, from car racing to manufacturing. There are different types of welding, but the common one today is arc welding. When welding you join steel beams in the construction of buildings, bridges, and other structures and to join pipes in pipelines, power plants, and refineries. Welding is used in shipbuilding, automobile manufacturing and repair, and thousands of other manufacturing activities. Before welding something you have to sketch and study the blueprint.

The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $26,800, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $62,100.

Job Outlook/Opportunities

Employment of welders is projected to grow 4% from 2014 to 2024. In 2014 the amount of people that was employed was 397,900, and the projected employment in 2024 is 412,300. The basic skills of welding are similar across industries, so welders can easily shift from one industry to another, depending on where they are needed most. The nation’s aging infrastructure will require the expertise of welders to help rebuild bridges, highways, and buildings.

Why I Chose This Career

I chose this career because I like to weld. Another reason that I chose this career is because they make good money and my older brother is a welder and he makes $20.00 an hour. Something that I learned after researching this career is that before they start doing their job at their job sight they have to study a blueprint to see what they have to do. I still interest in still being a welder after doing all this research because being a welder is a hard job, but I would be doing what I like and you make nice money depending on what kind of welding you
