Growing up on a farm, animals were always a big part of my life. I was always outside helping with chores or bringing home injured animals for which to care. Being in this environment has sparked my interest to become a veterinarian. On a farm with many animals, the vet was called to our house quite frequently. I was always amazed by the procedures that were performed and stood as close as I could to see exactly what was happening. I have also been able to help my dad with several procedures, such as: tubing a calf to release the gas in their stomach,pregnancy checking cows, and deworming sheep. Situations like these showed me how to stay steady, calm, and collected, as well as how to make the animal feel comfortable.
