Narrative About Fear

My heart raced, as he stared at me with his bloodthirsty eyes. I had never been more scared in my entire life. “Hold out your hands,” he said, “the more you resist, the more it is going to hurt.” I knew I was in for a great deal of pain. I was about twelve years old, when my parents sent me to weekend school. They thought it was going to be a great way to become more knowledgeable about my religion. Everything about the school is a blur; the only thing I remember about it is the teacher: a merciless, cold-blooded, man. He had a way about him that was almost primitive. He thought the best way to educate children was to beat them senseless. He carried his thick cable wire around like it was the latest fashion accessory. After my experience …show more content…
I needed to gain back the confidence that he snatched away from me. I did not want to live in fear anymore, and I certainly did not want to be pushed around. I knew that it was unreasonable to think that everyone was going to hurt me, just because one person hurt me. I slowly taught myself to be normal again; to not be so terrified of everyone around me. I am not the meek, little girl that I once was. I do not let people push me around, nor am I afraid to stand up for myself. I learned that you should not let one unfortunate experience take over your life; the only way to get over a devastating experience is to take control of it. I could not let one dreadful person have that kind of control over me; I could not give him the satisfaction of breaking me. On account this experience, I decided that I wanted to become a doctor–I later resolved to become a cardiovascular surgeon. Surgeons are intelligent, dexterous, conscientious, and a number of other things. Above all, they use their skills to save lives. I just think it would be amazing to one day be able to improve and save the lives of people in need. As humans, there is only so much we can do to find contentment, and for me this means devoting my time to ameliorating the world around …show more content…
I was fortunate enough to have come to America at a young age, and grow up knowing the value of an education, and knowing how far it could get you. I want to leave an impact on this world, even if it is only temporary. I want the skills to be able to help people; to help alleviate their pain. As can be seen, I am tremendously passionate about my future. I have a burning desire to be a selfless, compassionate person. For this reason, I aspire to become a doctor. I know that it will take a lot of time, energy, and resources to make this happen, therefore I am preparing myself now for what the future may hold. I will work hard and I will not stop until I make my dream a

In the article “A Decade of Fear” Sam Robert explains how McCarthyism turned Americans against each other in the decade after World War II by creating fear on every single one of them, because they were either involved with Communism or knew someone who was. According to Robert “screenwriters, actors, directors, and producers were dragged before the House Un-American Activities Committee and asked to “name names” of colleagues who had Communist ties or sympathies” (par. 13). In other words, men and women were asked to expose friends and/or family who was associated with the practice of Communism. As a matter of fact, society did not really have a choice at that time, because the government was callous and did not care about their rebuttals.…

In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Miller uses his writing to emphasize how people will manipulate fear in order to obtain power. Abigail Williams is a young girl who finds herself in a socially and sexually oppressive environment; she is on the low rung of society, because she is an orphan and is unmarried. After falling in love with an already married man she is even more powerless, because she cannot love him openly or even get him to acknowledge her. She sees this fear of witches and the devil, a constant in Salem, and uses it as support to get rid of Proctor’s wife. Abigail and the other girls know well that there were not any witches, clear from all their planted, false, and spectral evidence.…
