Narrative About Fear

My heart raced, as he stared at me with his bloodthirsty eyes. I had never been more scared in my entire life. “Hold out your hands,” he said, “the more you resist, the more it is going to hurt.” I knew I was in for a great deal of pain. I was about twelve years old, when my parents sent me to weekend school. They thought it was going to be a great way to become more knowledgeable about my religion. Everything about the school is a blur; the only thing I remember about it is the teacher: a merciless, cold-blooded, man. He had a way about him that was almost primitive. I needed to gain back the confidence that he snatched away from me. I did not want to live in fear anymore, and I certainly did not want to be pushed around. I knew that it was unreasonable to think that everyone was going to hurt me, just because one person hurt me. I slowly taught myself to be normal again; to not be so terrified of everyone around me. I am not the meek, little girl that I once was. I do not let people push me around, nor am I afraid to stand up for myself. I learned that you should not let one unfortunate experience take over your life; the only way to get over a devastating experience is to take control of it. I could not let one dreadful person have that kind of control over me; I could not give him the satisfaction of breaking me. On account this experience, I decided that I wanted to become a doctor–I later resolved to become a cardiovascular surgeon. Surgeons are intelligent, dexterous, conscientious, and a number of other things. Above all, they use their skills to save lives. I just think it would be amazing to one day be able to improve and save the lives of people in need. I was fortunate enough to have come to America at a young age, and grow up knowing the value of an education, and knowing how far it could get you. I want to leave an impact on this world, even if it is only temporary. I want the skills to be able to help people; to help alleviate their pain. As can be seen, I am tremendously passionate about my future. I have a burning desire to be a selfless, compassionate person. For this reason, I aspire to become a doctor. I know that it will take a lot of time, energy, and resources to make this happen, therefore I am preparing myself now for what the future may hold.
