Becoming a Student Teacher: Module Assessment
In the module ‘Becoming a student teacher’ three aspects were covered in the five weeks; ‘Life Skills’, ‘ICT’ and ‘Academic Writing’.
In Life Skills the learning experiences were on ‘Self-identity, Transitions and Relationships’, ‘Effective Communication and Assertiveness Skills’, ‘Decision Making’, ‘Motivation regarding Study’ and ‘Stress Management’. I found the section on ‘Self-identity, Transitions and Relationships’ to be very insightful and helpful as it was highly relative to our lives because we were in the middle of an important and difficult transition from second level education to third level education. In the change my peers and I had to make new relationships to form friendships which in turn would make the transition easier and less daunting for us, therefore on learning about how to cope with transitions and how to make new relationships was beneficial for me and my class. Although the aspect of ‘Study Motivation and Stress Management’ was largely relevant to my life as I am now in college I felt for a large part that what was being said and discusses in the classes I had head many times before in dealing with the Leaving Cert in secondary school last year, therefore I did not benefit much from this section of the module and it

I really enjoyed when we learned about the program ‘Class Dojo’ which I believe I would find this of benefit to me and make teaching easier and engage the students in my school placements in the coming years. Although ‘ICT’ was not beneficial to me personally I did learn a lot of skills that will aid me professionally in my

Learning about socioeconomic status, race, religion, and cultures were all significant.…

Professor Malchodi EN 102 Life Passages class focused on life passages, or the transition from one stage of life to another. Many of the stories were about transition between childhood and adulthood and were relatable because I am also in that transition. At the beginning of my freshman year, I created a guiding question that will follow me throughout my four year of college. My question, “What is the relationship between personality and behavior?” relates to the class because I gained insight into other characters’ transitions from childhood to adulthood, which allowed me to grow my view on life.…

On Tuesday, October 20, 2015, I spent the day at Media Elementary School in the Rose Tree Media School District assisting 4th-grade teacher Mrs. Williamson. Mrs. Williamson is a teacher with 23 years of experience and she spent most her career with Media Elementary School. The school day for the students begins at 9:00 am and ends at 3:30 pm. I was supposed to report at 8:45 am as the teacher began preparing for the class few minutes before the students entered the classroom. I reached there at 8:30 and after finishing my Visitor card formalities, I was with the teacher right in time.…

I am applying for a PGCE teacher training course because I have always had an interest in working with young people within the education sector. Through voluntary experience I have been privileged to exercise my passion for helping the future generation achieve their aspired goals and potentials, as I was fortunate to have received this support during my own educational journey. I have always had a passion for teaching ever since I was little because I used to help my younger brother with his school work. As I got older I used to tutor my cousins’ to help prepare them for their SAT’s. This first glimpse into the life of an OTEAM member has been enlightening, both on a personal level and as I move forward as a First Year Seminar mentor. I learned about IUPUI, it's mission for its staff and students, and how OTEAM is interwoven with the university's goals. I learned how to engage my students by being there, choosing my attitude, incorporating elements of play, and by making their day (small moments build up to a big impact). I've also learned not to push students away by simply offering advice but to assist them by building up a helping relationship, where they're ultimately in charge of their own actions. I've also gotten a taste of the incredibly diversity on campus by being able to collaborate and learn with other OTEAMers…

As a child, I dreamt of becoming a teacher. When we are young we have life goals that appear to be attainable at the time, but we never think of the obstacles and hardships we will face in order to achieve those goals. I am the first in my family to graduate college, so when it was time to apply for colleges I had no familial assistance. My college experience began at Medaille College in the fall of 2010. Medaille is a small, private, predominately white institution (PWI) in Buffalo, NY.…

This assignment will discuss how victims are placed at the centre of attention in police procedurals, and the theories used to assist these shows in helping them to put emphasis on the victims being the most important after a crime has taken place. A police procedural is a subgenre of detective fiction which attempts to convincingly illustrate the activities of a police force as they investigate crime. Over the years these procedurals have become more prominent and the most watched shows on TV, and victims are being prioritized as number one as they are shown to be the ones mostly traumatized at the aftermath of a crime. These shows also use several ways to make the show seem realistic.…

Reflection Assignment 2 Discussion (Group Blog) I chose one of the very first assignments we did in this class because I thought that this first assignment was great learning experience because I thought that as the first assignment being a group discussion, it just brought everyone together and let everyone get to know each other just a little bit more. I was nervous at first, because I am not a social person’ however, after this assignment, I thought that it brought me closer to some of my peers. The reflection assignment talked about using deception in research, and if it was a bad thing to do or not. We wrote a reflection, and the people in or group had to comment and review our post. Towards the end of the assignment, everyone in our group participated, and I now wish that throughout the semester, we had more group assignments.…

When I first began this class I thought that this would be just another introductory class that is required to orient you to the expectations of the particular college. Now, after completing this class, I know that this is not the case. Personal Dimensions of Learning has been a great help, not only to my school work, but also in my daily life. Before taking this class, I thought that learning, and completing daily tasks, were mostly memorizing the order of the way things are supposed to be done and just completing the task. I never liked this strategy, but it always seemed to be the most convenient way to get things done at school, home, and work.…
