Personal Narrative: Firehouse Subs

Improved Essays
I’m early for work so I sit in the food court and patiently wait for my time to clock in. I look up from my phone and see my district manager walking towards my direction. I start to wonder what I did wrong. Am I late and I accidently looked at my schedule wrong? I gently smile to hide my anxiety. She returns the smile before saying “good morning”. She cuts to the chase and says, “the general manager and I have talked about it and would like to know what you think about becoming a shift leader?”. All that went through my mind was “school starts back in a couple of months…what about school?” and then second, “I’m only seventeen so who will take me seriously?”. I responded, “I’m not sure if I am going to balance school and work”. “But aren’t …show more content…
Firehouse is my first job and I have worked for a year and five months. I have seen plenty of people come and go. I have even trained some of the newbies. I knew firehouse like the back of my hand and maybe even better. I would have to work around forty hours a week, keep up with school, and keep up with my social life. My first day I walked into work and everyone stopped for a minute. They were staring at my new black Firehouse Subs collared shirt and name tag, which said “Brianna Swint” and underneath “shift leader”. Is this new role something I could take on or am I in way over my …show more content…
What is a transition, if you do not struggle? Working at Firehouse over a year I had made a lot of close friends with my coworkers. I was told I must “separate” myself from my coworkers to receive respect as a manager. I could no longer laugh and joke around like previously. I had to grow up and show I had the skills to be a leader. My friends/ coworkers weren’t used to me being a manager. I soon heard comments like “she thinks she is better than everyone now” or “she is so bossy”. I’ve heard the quote, “people hate to see you grow” and I never understood that until now. I also struggled because of my age. Since I am only seventeen, most would not think of me as an adult but still a child. You must be at least eighteen to qualify as a shift leader but I was exempt from this rule. I would then hear comments like “I would never listen to a seventeen-year-old”. I had to earn respect and display that I’m here to be serious. The first couple of weeks were rough and just getting used to being the one in charge. I was determined to get the job done. I have always wanted to be the person that everyone liked and wanted to be

“It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg.”- C.S Lewis Transition is a difficult concept for many individuals, but is necessary in order to progress. Often times we set goals, but don't reach them because we rather stay in our “egg” and that was the case when I switched schools. My initial environment had been cozy and friendly.…

The one accomplishment that marked my transition from being a child into becoming an adult would have to be when I got my first job at Culver’s. This accomplishment was a major milestone in my life which lead to many other great things to follow it. After applying to many different places I finally got a call back from Culver’s saying that they would like to have me come in to have an interview with me. At first I was a nervous wreck, but with the help of some really good friends with some good tips on how to dress, talk, and answer some of their tougher questions. I really appreciated their help and if it weren't for them I probably wouldn't have got the job.…

There’s a little slice of Heaven in Marshall, Texas, where the sun shines through the pines and the sound of cicadas serenade you throughout your afternoon and the lake shines like a plate of polished silver in the early morning sun. When I first came to Camp Fern, I was on my own. Everyone else had known each other for at least two years, so I was the odd one out. In my cabin there was the usual sort. There was the popular one, the attention seeker, the joker, and the one you love to hate.…

When I was 7 years old we had to evacuate because there was a wild fire up in the mountains near our neighborhood, there was so much commotion around our neighborhood we didn’t know even what to do. The firefighters had kept a close eye on our neighborhood since last week we knew there was a wild fire around our neighborhood, but we never knew it was that close to our house. It all started when I was in about fourth grade. A group of firefighters came to my school for a presentation. I remember vividly an intimidatingly burly fire marshall telling I don’t remember much about it, except that they told each of us that we needed an escape plan in case of a fire. I remember a story my mom had told me many times about a fire that devastated her family when she was a little girl. It made me shake in my shoes.…

My philosophy of the role of the school counselor is that school counselors play a tremendous role in the life of their student and is very important for us, school counselors to be aware of our role in the students’ life. We play a big role in their development of different areas such as personal development, career/academic development, and social development. As stated by Erford (2010), The range of concerns and problems that professional school counselors are expected to address continues to grow as the dynamics of the larger society which affect the readiness and behavior of students in school (Erford, 2010). I believe this information is important because clearly our role as a school counselor is complex and comprehensive and therefore,…
