My Nursing Journey

The pursuit to graduate with my bachelor of science degree in nursing has been a long journey. There have been adversities along the way. However, I can proudly state, “I am closer than I have ever been.” The same adversities, having twins, gave me new reasons for obtaining my registered nursing degree. The life experiences that I have had, a desire to grow within the field of nursing, and my personal goals for my own education are now the reasons that I have for becoming the registered nurse I have always yearned to would become. One of my personal life experiences not only ignited, but help redefine why I wanted to become a registered nurse. In July of 2009 I gave birth to premature twins. They were born at thirty-six weeks’ gestation. …show more content…
Nursing is constantly changing, thus leading nurse to grow within the nursing profession. An example of how nursing changes was the implementation of the HIPPA act. According to Rodriguez (2013), information regarding someone’s healthcare not shared with people who are not directly involved with that individual’s care needs. Their information is protected by privacy laws; otherwise known as the HIPPA act. The privacy act was not something that I was taught about in nursing school. However, it was during my first year of nursing that it went into effect. I was working the day the HIPPA act went into effect, and witnessed firsthand nursing changing. I became a licensed vocational nurse at the age of twenty-one. There have been numerous changes to this profession throughout my years as a nurse. The constant evolving of this profession along with the desire and ambition to not only witness it, but have to opportunities to influence the changes is another reason why I am on this journey to become a registered …show more content…
There have been obstacles and setbacks throughout my journey, but so of these obstacles redefined my reasons for being on this journey. The pursuit of furthering my education, the desire to grow within my chosen profession of nursing, and my own life experiences are the reasons why I want to become a registered nurse.
