You do not always have your primary career choice, so, therefore, everyone must have a secondary career choice. My secondary career choice is the pathway of the Probation Officer. I have chosen the Probation Officer career as my back up plan since I enjoy law enforcement. I have always had a passion for the industry and I even did some volunteer work for law enforcement departments. After all those volunteer hours, I decided this will be my back up plan just case becoming a Chief Executive Officer does not work out.

In fact, according to Volti, “Rites of passage have been analyzed as having three general phases: separation, transition, and incorporation” (143). I chose this chapter for it talks about relevant content that is inspiring. The chapter talks about occupational heroes and the power of socialization that is all relevant to my career. The culture values that are accepted in my career is you must be able to connect with other law enforcement agents and the clients who have broken the law. You must be able to be a leader and show great honor when it comes to successfully doing your job on a daily basis. One of the great benefits of being a Probation Officer is you have a badge that can be used when getting pull over. For instance, when a patrol officer pulls you over for the reason that they think you are speeding, as soon as they see your badge, he will let you go freely without any consequence. They do this due to the fact that you are one of them and will most likely not receive a ticket from them. Another benefit is you have great job security that does not have a major risk of being fired. From my conversations with Probation Officers, as long as you do not do anything that is dishonorable then your job is safe. Unlike the Chief Executive Officer, you cannot be easily let go rather there is too much attention or not. Another benefit that is great to have is you are licensed to carry. Which is nice by the way since you do not have to pay large money for the entire application process or wait an entire year for the Sheriff Chief’s approval. However, there are problems that can lead to stress of being a Probation Officer. One of those problems is your physical safety is always on the line since you are dealing with criminals of the law. You have clients who can try to hurt you at any time especially if they feel violence is the answer. Another problem is not all citizens favor law enforcement workers.
