Becoming A Physical Therapist: A Personal Statement

After cleaning her wounds, giving her multivitamins and handing her parasite medication she looked up at me with her cavity filled mouth smiling the biggest smile I had ever seen. She reached her arms out in front of her tiny body with her hands together and pointed them towards me. A translator whispered behind my shoulder that this was a sign of ultimate and saintlike respect. Her magnitude of gratefulness made me instantly humbled. With tears in her eyes, we hugged. Little did this poverty-stricken girl know how much she had changed my life forever. My flight from Nicaragua to the U.S. gave me time to reflect on what this medical mission trip meant to me. However, after job shadowing, it was clear this was not the best fit for me. Although my love for science and serving others never left me, I began to feel a stronger interest in the behind the scenes operations of our healthcare system. Earning an advanced degree in Health and Human Services Administration from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota will provide me with the skills needed to manage healthcare facilities effectively. Considering the enriched perspectives and multicultural education I received, I feel fortunate to have earned a bachelor's degree from St Mary’s University.The high ethical standards Saint Mary’s has for their professors and students inspired me to be a driven leader with the passion for serving others in healthcare. I would not be the person I am today if it was not for the high-quality education I received from my professors. I wish to gain admission into Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota Master of Arts program, so I can continue my passion for learning in a community of those who value leading ethical lives while empowering me with the skills needed to be an effective
