For a second I am suspended in a state of sensory overload. I am cold but sweating through the first pair of scrubs I have ever donned. My eyes are following the squiggly lines dancing across various monitors; bleeps and bloops bounce around my ears as the scrub nurse hums the tune playing in the background. I feel my face tighten. A smile has taken refuge behind my mask because I want to be a part of this and I know I can contribute by training in and eventually providing anesthesia. To reach my goal I took on more credits, poured over textbooks, studied harder, and eventually earned my way into nursing school at the University of Tennessee. This newfound motivation allowed me to excel both inside and outside the classroom. Receiving good grades was not enough, and I soon found myself striving to serve the healthcare community in any way possible, such as a blood drive I coordinated my senior year. My educational and altruistic transformation accomplished while working hard to get into nursing school paved the way for my professional transition to become a nurse

Grass Ceiling “Are you kidding me?” I groaned boisterously as the last remaining trimming string snapped and the weed whacker gradually churned to a stop. I had been so consumed by my thoughts of planning my senior speech, crafting my life plan of becoming a nurse anesthetist, and figuring out what I wanted to eat for breakfast, I failed to notice my quickening pace and that I had outworked the machine.
