Becoming A Neurosurgeon

There are thousands of career options to consider when making the decision of what you want to be when you grow older. For me, becoming a neurosurgeon was a very recent interest I had taken on. A neurosurgeon is a surgeon who specializes in the examination and identifying the necessary surgical treatment regarding the brain and spine. Some diagnoses are trauma, tumors, disorders, infections and diseases that can occur in the brain or spinal cord. The educational path and training to become a neurosurgeon are intensive and lengthy. Like any job in the medical field, neurosurgery is not an easy career path. The education and training you go through will be very long and exhausting. Because neurology deals with the brain and spinal cord, where you must be careful about the surroundings like nerves and blood vessels, one must have a constructional and three-dimensional direction. Additionally, one should also have the ability to scan and understand the spatial relationships that underlies all successful neurosurgical procedures. Some mechanical ability is also necessary. Most, if not all operations require some degree of manual finesse, such as tying knots to placing aneurysm clips. Of course, you cannot do a surgery alone, therefore, professionalism and working well in groups or a system is also essential. Finally, above all else, you should always have a dedication, understanding and empathy towards your patients.
