Becoming A Marine: A Career As A Role Model

Throughout life, most people cannot wait to graduate high school, move away to college, and determine their life-long career. Growing up, I wasn’t sure if I was going to follow the path of my classmates, or the dreams of joining the military. After furthering my knowledge on the military, I knew I would be successful as a Marine. My mother, who I look at as a role model, was taking her last steps before pursuing her dreams of joining the military. Due to medical reasons, she was unable to do what she always wanted. That being said, that gave me more of a reason to not only do for my country but my mom. Becoming a Marine has now become my life-long career as I grow up. I learned about the many requirements and steps that are needed to be taken to continue my process to become a Marine. That requirements being, a high school diploma and at least a thirty-two on the ASVAB. I later met a recruiter who then informed me about the many activities and workouts that would prepare me while at boot camp.
I began attending weekly physical training classes at the nearest recruiting station with other poolees and guest, as a guest. I saw the physical strengths needed to be successful to serve and protect, and decided that being a Marine was for me. Mid-December, I began furthering the process by filling out paper work, and prepared myself to graduate early. I attended the different events and went to reserve bases to get a better understanding of the “world” of a Marine. I took what I learned at PT and the poolee events, and showed my abilities and strengths.
Months went by as Sgt. Pendleton prepared my paperwork and help build my strengths to be ready for Indianapolis. May 3rd of 2016 was the day I committed my life to the Marines. I researched the different MOS’s and met with veterans to get the insight on the jobs. My ASVAB score had a lot of input on my job and what I was able to do.
