Personal Essay On Military Enlist

Upon learning that I was ineligible to enlist in the United States Army because I do not meet the “Standards of Medical Fitness”, I was devastated. From the time that my best friend informed me that she was joining, I wanted to enlist. I took the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery in my senior year of high school and scored high enough to qualify for some of the most advanced positions that the Armed Forces had to offer, including those in the skilled technical field. In fact, the scores that I earned in the Verbal, Math, Spatial and Science and Technical domains were some of the highest earned in my school. Aside from these scores, I also met the moral standards for military enlistment. This is necessary because the clientele that social workers have cross racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and religious boundaries so it is important that one is sensitive to the needs of each population and does not offend them in the process of guiding them. It was for this reason that I made the commitment to take a, which exposed me to a variety of cultures, including African Americans, Asian Americans and the Jewish. From my Introduction to Asian American Studies, I learned that Asian Americans still face discrimination but it is often not classified as a hate crime given they are not considered a protected class. This is important information to note as I continue on in my career path because I can see how an act such as this could affect them as well as the frustration that nothing is being done about
