Becoming A Leader

A leader is defined by the dictionary as someone who leads. This definition in not helpful to anyone wanting to become a leader themselves because a leader is so much more than someone who leads. A leader has many great virtues that allow them to obtain the trust of others. I myself have exhibited and learned the qualities of a leader. I have had leadership experiences through hockey, work and student government. I have learned how to be calm, passionate, and have gained the respect of others through my integrity and desire to become a better leader. The sport I have always competed in is ice hockey. On my hockey team, I have helped younger players adapt to the style of play that occurs in high school hockey compared to the bantam age group. In addition, I lead learn to play hockey classes and coach the youth community. In school, I was a leader through student government after being selected class treasurer and my job at the local hockey shop has given me responsibilities that strengthen my character and accountability. These experiences have helped me gain leadership qualities needed to become a leader outside of school and sports. An important quality for a leader to express is passion. Being a leader is imperative to the society today because leaders are able to take charge and surpass challenges they face. However, a leader is still respectful and able to work with others. It is important for a leader to take enough power that will allow the group to succeed, but not too much power because it would lead to the downfall of the group. If one person takes too much power, controversy will begin as this person loses the respect of others.
